TRAINING FOR UBC RESEARCHERS

The Office of Research Ethics offers the following onsite lectures and workshops to UBC researchers throughout the academic year.

View the events calendar to review upcoming workshops, or contact us to request a custom lecture (see below).

1. Tips and Traps: What to Do (and What Not to Do) When Submitting an Application for Ethical Review

This 90-minute seminar for academics and student researchers is offered periodically. Each lecture covers UBC policies and processes relating to human research ethics and provides researchers with information concerning what the research ethics boards look for. Helpful advice is offered on how to avoid making typical errors in ethics applications. An extended Q&A period provides participants with the opportunity to interact with Research Ethics Board members and Office of Research Ethics staff.

A version of the 'Tips and Traps' seminar aimed at behavioural researchers and social scientists is available for viewing at the following link: Behavioural Tips & Traps Seminar.

2. Introduction to Ethics and/or Common Challenges in Ethics Submissions

The Clinical Research Ethics Board offers two 30 minute lectures; one as an introduction to ethics, and one that goes into more depth about common errors seen on ethics submissions.  These presentations can be done throughout the year upon request.  Please see below for video recordings of each presentation:

Basic Introduction to the Clinical Research Ethics process

Common Challenges in Clinical Research Ethics submissions

3. Joint Faculty of Graduate Studies/Office of Research Ethics Workshops

Separate workshops on social science/behavioural and clinical research ethics are periodically offered to graduate students in partnership with the Faculty of Graduate Studies Graduate Pathways to Success Program.
