THE HAMPTON FUND PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT GRANT

The Office of VP-Research and International is pleased to announce a ‘Call for Applications’ for the third competition of the Hampton Fund Partnership Development Grant (HPDG).

SSHRC has introduced two new ‘partnership’ competitions, namely ‘Partnership Development Grants’ and ‘Partnership Grants’. To ensure that UBC faculty members are well positioned to apply for either of these awards, in 2011 the Office of the Vice-President Research and International (VPRI) created a new internal research funding competition (HPDG awards) intended to assist UBC’s SSHRC eligible faculty who wished to seek out and develop relationships with potential partners for the purpose of applying for funding that requires partner involvement. At that time it was announced that this competition would be for an initial two years after which it would be evaluated in terms of whether it was successful and the best use of UBC’s Hampton funds.  This is the last competition before that evaluation.

In this context, a partner is a formal or informal organization, not an individual.  An individual or individuals must represent each partner organization. The partners and individuals (either confirmed or potential) should be identified separately whenever possible.  If not possible, than an explanation is needed.

In all cases, the focus on the partnership activity should be toward applying, together with the partner, for external funding either to SSHRC or some other funding agency. Thus, when completing their applications, applicants should be as clear as possible about the relevance and value of the potential partnership involved for future funding applications.

Eligibility:

Full-time Assistant Professors or those of higher rank who are working in SSHRC-fundable disciplines, including the Visual and Performing Arts. Although SSHRC has chosen not to fund health-related research, the Hampton Fund will continue to accept applications by social scientists and humanities from health related research areas that were previously fundable through SSHRC.

Assessment and Guidelines:

The Hampton Fund Adjudication Committee will assess applications. It is comprised of faculty from both UBCO and UBCV with backgrounds in social science, humanities and the creative and performing arts.  Information on the criteria for assessment is found in the ‘Guidelines’ that accompany the ‘Application Form’ on the ORS website, URL: http://www.ors.ubc.ca/contents/forms

Award Amounts:

A total of $100,000 has been earmarked for this competition. Individual awards have a project minimum of $3,000 to a maximum of $10,000.
