UBC Funding
This list contains funding opportunities offered by UBC faculties, units and affiliated institutes. See the menu at right for external (non-UBC) funding opportunities.
Graduate Student International Research Mobility Award
In partnership with the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Go Global, the Office of the Vice President Research & International supports UBC graduate students who wish to participate in a research abroad opportunity at a leading institution outside of Canada or the U.S. and UBC faculty who wish to host an international graduate student at UBC from outside of Canada or the U.S. for a research abroad opportunity.
UBC Graduate Student International Research Mobility Awards are up to $1500. Priority is given to PhD students. Students who are already on a research abroad program are not eligible. Student awardees who have completed their research abroad program must complete a Final Report within 30 days of program completion.

Deadlines: January 10, May 1, October 1*
*Current 2012 Deadline is Tuesday May 1st for e-submission (required). Support letters can be submitted by May 3rd, along with the hard copy** application submission with required signatures. See guidelines for more details regarding application processes and guidelines

Applications should generally be submitted at least 3 months prior to travel. If you are travelling prior to 3 months before the next deadline, please contact our office to discuss your application.
Go Global
Go Global is UBC’s hub for study, work and international service learning programs. Awards ($1000) and scholarships ($1500) are available to all UBC students (undergrad and graduate), including PhD and curriculum-, practicum- and thesis-based master’s students, to participate in study or research exchanges at partner institutions. Through participation in Go Global, other awards may be available to UBC students; please review Go Global’s award and scholarship information.
Graduate Student Travel Fund
The Faculty of Graduate Studies, graduate students are eligible for reimbursement from the Graduate Student Travel Fund once per degree program. The fund provides travel support to a maximum of $400 per UBC graduate student who participate in a research abroad program through the UBC Graduate Student International Research Mobility Award.
Some Faculties and Departments may offer a top-up to these funds for students presenting a paper or poster at a conference or symposium. Students should check directly with their Departmental Head or the Office of the Dean.
CFRI Research Methodology Training Grant
Offered by the UBC-affiliated Child and Family Research Institute, the CFRI Research Methodology Training Grant is designed to help defray the costs of travel and living expenses for trainees to participate in specialized training opportunities unavailable locally. Graduate students and post-docs who are currently training with a faculty member affiliated with the Child & Family Research Institute are eligible. Value: $500 to $3K; no submission deadline.
