If you are a new faculty member or researcher, welcome to UBC. As part of its mandate to oversee research infrastructure, the Office of the Vice President Research & International offers research-specific support and advice.
The Faculty Relations Office is the definitive resource for faculty members new to UBC. A visit to the Faculty Relations website will answer most questions about recruitment, immigration, appointment, orientation, compensation, tenure and promotion, sabbatical and retirement.

Research Orientation day for New Faculty Members
This annual, day-long event connects new faculty members with research support units and available resources. New researchers will meet experienced faculty, research directors, and one another. Discussion topics include:
- Connecting with your grants facilitators;
- Risk management and liability concerns;
- Research services: finding and securing funding;
- Tri-council awards (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR);
- Research Ethics; and
- Compliance, internal review and accounting procedures.
The date for the next Research Orientation Day is Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Register online for Research Orientation Day 2011 here. Faculty members of professorial rank (Assistant, Associate, Full) who began at UBC after January 1, 2009 are eligible to attend.

New Faculty Luncheons
Register now for the next New Faculty Luncheon on Tuesday April 10. These informal meetings provide new and junior faculty members the opportunity to meet the Vice President Research & International and discuss research matters over a catered lunch.
These small group sessions create a forum to support the activities of new and junior faculty members, and provide valuable feedback for the continuous improvement of the University's research infrastructure.
Luncheons are scheduled twice each year, late in the Fall and early in the Spring, and are open to faculty members who have been at UBC for three years or less.
