ONLINE TOOLS

A number of online tools and databases are available to support faculty researchers and their staff.

The following services are maintained by offices within the Vice President Research and International portoflio:

  • Calendar of Funding Deadlines: A dynamic list of current and upcoming opportunities for peer-reviewed research funding competitions. Maintained by the Office of Research Services. 
  • Chemical Exchange Database (CED): Provides an online portal for the free exchange of unopened surprlus chemicals among UBC researchers. Researchers may post available chemicals and browse for needed supplies.
  • Facilities, Resources and Events Database (FRED): An online database of sharable research resources accessible to anyone in British Columbia, including researchers, students and representatives from the public, private and non-profit sectors.
  • Researcher Information Services (RISe): An online portal for managing applications for protocols and ethical review concerning conflict of interest and research with animals, biohazardous materials, and human subjects. All UBC researchers at every campus and affiliated research institute are expected to use RISe to manage their compliance protocols.

Other Departmental Resources

  • Flintbox: An online community that enables universities to maximize their outreach to a broad spectrum of the innovation community.The global Flintbox community is ideal for marketingnew technologies,creative works,course materials, andinnovative ideas.
  • LabVIEW: UBC has a campus-wide license for this industry-standard software for testing, measurement, automation, and control.  Using LabVIEW, students and faculty can write sophisticated programs and applications in a shorter amount of time without needing advanced computer science training.
  • Please contact your departmental systems administrator for the installation CDs.  Departmental system administrators may  contact Luca Filipozzi in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for a copy.
  • UBC CV: A set of online modules designed to make it simpler for researchers and administrators to maintain and manage their CV data for a variety of purposes.
