Federal Funding Support for Research Personnel and Trainees Impacted by COVID-19

The following programs are applicable for research at UBC and affiliated health research institutions.

Research funded by non-government sources (industry and foundations)

The Canada Research Continuity Emergency Fund (CRCEF) is a tri-agency program administered by SSHRC and is part of the Government of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan. The initial focus of this fund is on wage support. It can cover up to 75% of salaries paid to research personnel or trainees through research projects funded by non-government sources. To qualify for payment, salaries must have been associated with projects that have either lost industry or foundation funding, or have been interrupted due to the impacts of research curtailment, between March 15 and August 29, 2020.  CRCEF can fund salaries for a maximum of 12 weeks per individual within the eligibility period.

Please note that applications to the UBC Research Staff and Trainee Emergency Fund are currently suspended as we fully determine how the UBC fund intersects with CRCEF.

Research funded by federal granting agencies (NSERC, SSHRC and CIHR)

Additional information has been published by the federal granting agencies about supplementary support for research personnel and trainees funded by NSERC, SSHRC and CIHR grants. Faculty members will be contacted directly by the relevant funding agency for each eligible grant they hold. Additional details are posted on the web pages listed below:
