SPARC is hosting Test Your Concept (TYC) panels for researchers interested in submitting applications to the 2022 New Frontiers in Research Fund Transformation Competition.

Information is included on how and when to use OneDrive and Teams for data storage, in addition to addressing security considerations, long-term data storage recommendations, and providing contact links.

Associate professor Nicola Levell has won the American Anthropological Association’s Council of Museum Anthropology’s 2021 Michael Ames Prize for Innovative Museum Anthropology for her project Shadows, Strings & Other Things (the physical and the digital exhibitions) and her edited volume Bodies of Enchantment: Puppets of Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas (2021).

The 2022/23 Northern Scientific Training Program (NSTP) is now open for applications. The NSTP supports student research in the North by supplying supplementary funds to offset the additional costs of Northern research.

The UBC Collaborative Research Mobility Awards (CRMA) program is now open again. It provides up to $5000 to support new or existing research partnerships between UBC researchers in the Okanagan and Vancouver. Faculty members from all disciplines are invited to apply. Funding may be used to cover travel and accommodation costs associated with meetings, accessing specialized equipment, or other partnership activities.

The Tri-Agency Panel on Research Ethics (PRE) proposed policy guidance released in June 2021 related to harmonized ethics review of multi-jurisdictional research. REBC and UBC (on behalf of the affiliated REBs with the exclusion of BCC) recently submitted their response, which wholeheartedly supports the overall objective of a single REB review for multi-site research, but which also identifies numerous issues with the model that the PRE is proposing.

UBC is developing a Research Data Management (RDM) Strategy in response to the Tri-Agency Policy on RDM. Help shape the strategy and the future of RDM at UBC by attending a virtual town hall open to the entire UBC research community: October 19th at 2pm.

UBC faculty of medicine’s Drs. Teresa Liu-Ambrose, Gina Ogilvie and Anita Palepu are among 74 new Fellows elected into the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS) for 2021.

Funding includes 18 awards to UBC faculty members through the Scholar Program and 43 awards to UBC research trainees to support health research at UBC and its affiliated health research institutions.

UBC’s Campus as a Living Lab (CLL) Fund Competition (2021-22) is now open. Proposals are invited from UBC Faculty & Staff to co-develop innovative, impactful and collaborative ‘living lab’ projects on campus. The competition closes on November 12, 2021.
