Funding by Federal Funding Agency
Canada's Tri-Agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) provide grants to support the direct costs of research. Grants are awarded through peer-reviewed competitions.
Tri-Agency | Value | Grant Count | % of Tri-Agency Value |
| Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) | $120,069,331 | 1,296 | 46.50% |
| Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) | $95,851,606 | 1,294 | 37.12% |
| Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) | $25,043,271 | 569 | 9.70% |

Infrastructure Funding by Agency (CFI/BCKDF)
Infrastructure funding supports buildings, facilities and large equipment used for research. The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) typically funds 40% of an approved infrastructure project, which is often matched by the BC Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF). Projects must fund the remaining matching 20% from eligible sources. Funding from each source for individual projects does not flow evenly in each year.
Agency | Value | Grant Count | % of infrastructure value |
| Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) | $89,765,458 | 270 | 55.97% |
| BC Knowledge Development Fund | $48,031,506 | 56 | 29.95% |
