Funding by Federal Funding Agency
Canada's Tri-Agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) provide grants to support the direct costs of research. Grants are awarded through peer-reviewed competitions.
Tri-Agency | Value | Grant Count | % of Tri-Agency Value |
| Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) | $124,966,058 | 1,278 | 46.40% |
| Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) | $99,982,029 | 1,341 | 37.12% |
| Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) | $24,507,243 | 592 | 9.10% |

Infrastructure Funding by Agency (CFI/BCKDF)
Infrastructure funding supports buildings, facilities and large equipment used for research. The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) typically funds 40% of an approved infrastructure project, which is often matched by the BC Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF). Projects must fund the remaining matching 20% from eligible sources. Funding from each source for individual projects does not flow evenly in each year.
Agency | Value | Grant Count | % of infrastructure value |
| Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) | $18,964,472 | 266 | 47.01% |
| BC Knowledge Development Fund | $6,478,687 | 43 | 16.06% |
