From October 2 - December 1, the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) wants you to tweet an image or video that shows how working in state-of-the-art facilities and with cutting-edge equipment has helped you and your research.

This is a great chance to talk about the value of your research to a national audience. Your entry can reach CFI’s 10,000+ twitter followers.

Winners will have a chance to take over the CFI’s @InnovationCA Twitter feed for a day, and be their guest at a special event in Ottawa.

Submissions

Single images or videos of up to 140 seconds can be entered through Twitter by using the hashtags #IAmInnovation and #Contest.

Add  @UBC to your entry and we will look to elevate your entry through our even-wider-reaching channels.

The CFI is wanting you to get creative, be persuasive and clear. Information on eligibility, submissions, prizes and judging criteria can be found on their website.

Tips and tricks

Photography
While your entry doesn’t need to adhere to UBC brand guidelines, check out the photography best practices guidelines produced by Communications and Marketing for lots of great tips.

Much of UBC’s CFI-funded equipment will have a CFI sticker on it. If it doesn’t, your supervisor may have access to one.  Having the sticker subtly visible in your shot may not be a bad thing!

Video
Focus on the most engaging aspects of your work, and what it means to others. Use plain language to convey your enthusiasm. Check out the key considerations for audio and video to help you tell an engaging story.
