Grants for Catalyzing Research Excellence Clusters

The Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters (GCRC) competition enables the formation and growth of interdisciplinary clusters of research excellence. Clusters led by researchers at our Okanagan campus can apply for funding through the Eminence program. 

Community-University Engagement Support (CUES) Fund

The Community-University Engagement Support (CUES) Fund awards supports community-university partnerships that benefit communities across the province and advance collaborative research, teaching, and learning.  Co-administered with UBC Community Engagement.

Collaborative Research Mobility Awards

The Collaborative Research Mobility Awards (CRMAs) are designed to facilitate collaboration on timely research opportunities by enabling researchers to move between campuses or institutions. 

Research Facility Support Grants

The Research Facility Support Grants (RFSGs) provide funding to extend the useful life of shared equipment at UBC through support for their operation, replacement of parts, repair or upgrade.

The staff at SPARC provide expert support to UBC researchers in all disciplines who seek operating and team-based funding for innovative research initiatives. SPARC helps to develop research partnerships and build interdisciplinary, inter-institutional teams that may involve government, the private sector and the community.

Services include internal review, strategic grant development workshops and consultations, team development, and brokering partnerships with government, industry and community organizations.

The Institutional Programs Office manages the full cycle of major federal, provincial and regional research awards including those offered by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the BC Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF), Pacific Economic Diversification Canada (PacifiCan), the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF), Canada 150 programs, and Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERCs).

Contact the Biosafety, Chemical and Radiation Safety Committees

The Biosafety Committee assesses each research proposal to determine whether the research falls within the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Canadian Biosafety Standards and Guidelines and proposes the appropriate level of containment. 

The primary objective of the UBC Radiation Safety Program is to facilitate and ensure the safe and knowledgeable use of radiation sources and devices in research, teaching and the environment.

The Chemical Safety Program incorporates the entire lifecycle of the chemical beginning with purchasing and ending with disposal. The aim is to ensure chemicals are used and handled properly to prevent injury, illness, disease, fire, explosions or property damage.

The Institutional Program Office's Infrastructure Database serves as an inventory for CFI-funded infrastructure and allows researchers from UBC sites, other institutions, non-profit institutes, and industry to search for specific equipment currently available in use at UBC. The database is intended to be a tool to maximize the use of CFI-funded infrastructure, encourage sharing of research infrastructure amongst researchers, and facilitate collaborations. The database is an ongoing work in progress, and not all CFI-funded infrastructure is currently in the database, but more equipment is being added all of the time.
