We are excited to invite you to Advanced Research Computing’s (ARC) Sockeye Workshop - Essential Skills. In this two-day workshop, we will be sharing best practices and troubleshooting tips to get the most out of using the UBC ARC Sockeye high performance cluster. This workshop is aimed at users with some familiarity with navigating the Sockeye system and running jobs.

UBC ranks second in Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities, 2021

UBC researchers are leading one NFRF Transformation Stream project awarded $24 million. 22 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs at UBC were announced and are being supported by an investment of over $20m. The announcement also includes awards of approximately 400 scholarships and fellowships to UBC students and postdoctoral fellows with a value of more than $18m.

SPARC, in collaboration with UBC faculty, has produced a new video -- NSERC CREATE Information Webinar and Strategic Discussion (CWL protected).

Applicants interested in submitting to the NSERC CREATE competition should consult this video. Included in this presentation is an outline of the competition, strategic advice, details on the mandatory internal selection process, and a discussion with a UBC faculty member who serves on the NSERC CREATE selection committee.

SSHRC’s Partnership Grant Stage 1 competition requires applicants to include a one page “Host organization involvement” module in the form of a “letter of engagement…written on official letterhead and signed by appropriate officials”. This letter “should explain any plans for involvement by the host institution in supporting the partnership”, including cash and/or in-kind support from departments and faculties within the host institution.

The Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research (the Secretariat) wants to inform the research community that the current Tri-Council Policy Statement 2: Course on Research Ethics (TCPS 2: CORE) will soon be replaced by a new version – TCPS 2: CORE-2022. The latter will refer exclusively to the TCPS 2 and will focus on ethics guidance that is applicable to all research involving human participants, regardless of discipline or methodology.

On December 9, 2021, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, announced an investment of $13.7 million in 89 new COVID-19 research projects across the country.

The Health Professional-Investigator Program helps close the gap between health research and its implementation. HP-I awards are dedicated to support health professionals who are actively involved in patient care to conduct and apply research relevant to health and/or the health system to ultimately improve health outcomes in BC and beyond.

Test Your Concept (TYC) sessions give applicants an opportunity to briefly present project plans and receive early feedback from and experienced panel prior to competition deadlines.  This year, our panel consists of Lisa Sundstrom, SSH RA and Professor in the Department of Political Science (PI of a SSHRC PDG), and Ben Mortenson, Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy (Project Director of a SSHRC PG).
