The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals, has elected Dr. Rashid Sumaila to the newest class of AAAS Fellows, among the most distinct honours within the global scientific community.
Dr. Sumaila, University Killam Professor, Professor in the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries and the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Interdisciplinary Ocean and Fisheries Economics (Tier 1) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, is recognized by AAAS in the section of Atmospheric & Hydrospheric Sciences for ‘distinguished research into how economics, through integration with ecology and other disciplines, can be used to ensure that environmental resources are sustainably managed for the benefit of all generations.
