New Resources to Support the Responsible Conduct of Research at UBC

March 17, 2021

A new website about the responsible conduct of research is now available to support the university’s culture of research excellence.

The website and its many teaching, learning and discussion resources were developed as part of UBC’s Scholarly Integrity Initiative and support the core area of research excellence outlined in its strategic plan. The initiative is led by the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation and Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies with support from UBC’s Academic Excellence Funds.  It has been collaboratively developed by a committee of scholars, researchers, trainees and staff, from across the university.

The website and resources expand upon the principles that underpin UBC’s Scholarly Integrity Policy (SC6), which is informed by the Tri-Agency Framework on the Responsible Conduct of Research. They support members of the UBC community to generate dialogue and increase awareness of the responsible conduct of research in various topic areas, including:

  • Mentorship and supervision
  • Data management
  • Writing with integrity
  • Authorship and publishing
  • Conflict of Interest
  • Funding and financial management
  • Research policies, and
  • New and evolving topic areas in research conduct

Researchers can adapt the resources to suit their specific research settings and are invited to provide feedback as the website and resources evolve. A Canvas course on the Responsible Conduct of Research will be available through this site and is scheduled to launch later this year.
