The Office of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Christina Laffin to the role of UBC’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Advisor. Dr. Laffin is an associate professor in the Department of Asian Studies and a former Canada Research Chair in Premodern Japanese Literature and Culture.
Faculty research advisors serve both campuses and provide strategic guidance, advice and leadership regarding research funding. They work in collaboration with VPRI support units to promote awareness of funding opportunities across all disciplines and to provide support for individuals or groups considering applications to federal funding agencies.
As we welcome Dr. Laffin into this role, we would like to acknowledge the contributions she has already made in an interim capacity since July 2024. She joins Drs. Purang Abolmaesumi, Kelly McNagny and Jehannine (J9) Austin who serve as the faculty research advisors for sciences and engineering research (NSERC), health research (CIHR) and the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) respectively.
