UBC launches 2025 Wall Fellowships and Wall Research Awards Competitions

The 2025 competitions for UBC’s Wall Fellowships and Wall Research Awards are now open.

These awards initially focus on research and scholarly activities relating to three areas of interest: 

  • Sustainable approaches to and development of the general urban environment, including water, energy and transportation infrastructure in British Columbia;
  • Environmental protection of oceans, beaches and waterfronts that impact British Columbia; and
  • Sustainable approaches to resource-intensive industry in British Columbia. 

Projects within these areas of interest will principally relate to British Columbia but may also apply to and address other Canadian and international regions. 

Application categories are as follows: 

Faculty Awards
These awards support the research activities of tenured and tenure-track faculty members at all stages of their career on both campuses.

  • Wall Fellowships valued at $1 million each, awarded to two faculty members each year.
    NOI Deadline: February 24, 2025
    Full Application Deadline: May 13, 2025
    Info Sessions: February 11, 2:00 pm, February 13, 10:00 am
     
  • Wall Research Awards are available for individual and team projects from faculty members, valued at up to $80,000 and $200,000 respectively.
    NOI Deadline: February 24, 2025
    Full Application Deadline: April 25, 2025
    Info Sessions: February 10, 2:00 pm, February 12, 10:00 am

Graduate Student Awards

  • Wall Research Awards for graduate students ranging from $25,000 to $30,000 per year.
    Full Application Deadline: March 31, 2025

The awards are collectively valued at approximately $4 million annually and have been made possible by the generosity of Dr. Peter Wall.
