UBC researchers are leading two new training initiatives to train the next generation of scientists and engineers for their future careers through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada's (NSERC) Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program.
The two UBC-led programs were awarded a combined $3.3 million over six years by NSERC as part of a national investment of more than $26.4 million for 16 new programs through CREATE.
These innovative and multidisciplinary training and mentorship programs help teams of highly qualified students and postdoctoral fellows develop their professional and technical skills while preparing them for their future careers in academia, industry, government and beyond.
This investment is part of a series of major investments in federal research funding, announced today by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions, that has been awarded through a suite of research programs administered by the three federal research granting agencies—the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).
