Internal Competition

This open call invites UBC researchers to submit proposals for innovative projects in the Digital and Health domains. We seek initiatives that advance the state of the art, address emerging challenges and capture new opportunities in wearable technology, preventative health, and data security.

These awards are valued at approximately $4 million annually, and have been made possible by the groundbreaking $100 million Peter Wall Legacy Fund, which was established through generous and recently revitalized donations from Dr. Peter Wall, dating back to 1991. 

Twenty-five Research Excellence Clusters led by researchers at UBC Vancouver have received grant funding through the 2024/25 Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters Competition (GCRC). A further 14 clusters are being supported in the second year of their existing grant.

In fall 2022, the VPRI facilitated an external review of its Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters (GCRC) Program to assess its effectiveness in supporting Research Excellence Strategy 6 (Collaborative Clusters) of UBC’s strategic plan.

GCRC supports Research Excellence Clusters led by researchers at UBC Vancouver. Research Excellence Clusters led by researchers at UBC Okanagan are supported by the Eminence Program.
