Isla Myers-Smith is an international research leader who has made major impacts on Arctic ecosystem science and ecology. She is internationally known for her Arctic greening research, as the global expert on tundra vegetation responses to climate change, including the process of shrubification. Her research is impactful, interdisciplinary and inclusive and she works collaboratively to conduct research internationally and within the Canadian North.
Professor Isla Myers-Smith is one of nine UBC faculty members announced by the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) as new Fellows and Members of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists in September 2025. Fellows and College Members are officially inducted into the RSC at the annual Celebration of Excellence and Engagement in November.
