UBC researchers awarded more than $16m to address social and economic challenges through SSHRC competitions

Today, more than $289 million in funding to support social sciences and humanities research across Canada was announced by Karim Bardeesy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

This funding, awarded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), supports 1,788 projects and partnerships led by researchers across Canada.

A total of 121 projects led by UBC researchers were awarded $16.6 million through SSHRC's Insight, Insight Development, and Partnership Development Grant programs.

This includes:

  • $11.4 million for 57 Insight Grants
  • $4.8 million for 62 Insight Development Grants
  • $0.4 million for 2 Partnership Development Grants
