Order of Canada 50th Anniversary

In 2017, the Order of Canada celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Join UBC President, Santa J. Ono and many of BC's 400+ Order of Canada recipients on November 29th for a day-long celebration of their achievements, and engage in discussions about building a better Canada over the next 50 years.

ABOUT THE DAY

The day-long event consists of three distinct portions: a morning event for school groups, and afternoon networking and workshop event for OC recipients, and a high-profile public event in the evening.

 

MORNING: Schools Event

DISCOVER THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE MEDALS


Join us for a fast-paced series of inspiring talks from high-profile Order of Canada recipients.

Following these talks, the audience will break into smaller groups for a more intimate discussion with OC recipients engaged in arts, social activism, sports, business, science and health. Students will interact with some of Canada's greatest minds and inspiring leaders, and learn about their life choices and career decisions.

AFTERNOON: Order of Canada Recipient Events

SHARING INSIGHTS


Meet with fellow OC recipients over lunch before engaging in a series of workshops that will contemplate crucial issues for the future of Canada, such as inclusion and reconciliation, and how society, universities and industry can interact to shape our future.

This will be followed by a private reception hosted by UBC President, Santa Ono.

EVENING: Public Event

BUILDING A BETTER CANADA


Featuring: David SuzukiShelagh RogersSophie Pierre, Trevor LindenWade Davis, and Robert Silverman

Join special musical guests and our incredible distinguished speakers as they contemplate what we should all be considering as we look to build a better Canada over the next 50 years, each from their own unique viewpoints.

After the talks, you may continue the discussions at the post-event reception in the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.

The morning and evening events are hosted in the internationally renowned Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, based on UBC's Point Grey Campus.
