Dr. Rashid Sumaila Receives the SSHRC Impact Partnership Award

UBC's Dr. Rashid Sumaila has received the 2021 SSHRC Impact Partnership Award on behalf of the OceanCanada Partnership.

The award recognizes the partnership's interdisciplinary work to understand and address threats facing Canada’s coastal regions and develop a shared vision for the future of Canada’s oceans that promotes the well-being of people living on coasts as well as the marine environment.

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced the winners of the 2021 Impact Awards, celebrating the most accomplished social sciences and humanities researchers in Canada. Read the full announcement.

The annual Impact Awards are the highest honour bestowed by SSHRC. Recipients and finalists represent the very best in cutting-edge research pushing our understanding of humanity forward, uniting diverse partners to serve common goals, and helping us change society for the better.

The Partnership Award recognizes a SSHRC-funded formal partnership for its outstanding achievement in advancing research, research training or knowledge mobilization, or developing a new partnership approach to research and/or related activities.

Dr. Sumaila is a professor in the UBC Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries, Faculty of Science, and School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, Faculty of Arts.
