I provide administrative support in the VP Research & Innovation Office, and work closely with the VP Research & Innovation, Gail Murphy. My responsibilities include:

Emily LeBaron, Executive Assistant to helen Burt

I work closely with Helen Burt, Associate Vice-President, Research & Innovation, and the Director of the VP Research & Innovation Office, supporting them in their roles. I assist with many of the operational, financial, and human resources in the office, managing the schedules of the AVP and Director, and preparing reports and briefs for them related to their work. My day-to-day work involves everything from coordinating special events and projects, liaising with different units in the Research and Innovation portfolio, and conducting research and compiling reports.

Greg Martyn, Director

I am the Director of the VPRI Office.  I work with our team to ensure the smooth operation of the Office, and advise the VP and AVP on a range of operational and strategic issues.  The Office serves as a gateway into the university’s research enterprise, and is responsible for the administration of UBC’s policy on scholarly integrity.  We support and facilitate the work of the many units that make up the VP Research & Innovation portfolio in delivering efficient, effective and compliant research services.

Kyle W. Demes, Senior Advisor, Strategic Initiatives
I work with the AVPR and VPR to operationalize strategic objectives within the portfolio. In that capacity, I support the evolving needs of units and task forces in the VP Research & Innovation portfolio (e.g., Advanced Research Computing, Community Based Research, Sequencing & Bioinformatics Consortium, and Collaborative Research with Indigenous Communities) and support faculty members and groups in major national and international grant competitions.

Julie Ovenell, Director, Communications

Straddling both the VP Research & Innovation and the VP Academic offices, I ensure that strategy informs tactics when it comes to telling UBC’s research and academic stories to broad internal and external audiences. I guide a small team of skilled communicators, and serve as liaison between portfolio executives and central Communications and Marketing.

Jamie Hall, Manager, Communications

I work with colleagues across the campus to promote the research activities and accomplishments of UBC, and manage the UBC Research + Innovation website. I provide technical and communications support to units in the VP Research & Innovation portfolio, and within the VPRI Office I am involved in all internal and external communications activities. This includes event management and research story creation and curation, through to communicating metrics, deadlines and initiatives to internal audiences.
