Government of Canada Backs Trailblazing Canadian Researchers

UBC researchers are leading one NFRF Transformation Stream project awarded $24 million. 22 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs at UBC were announced and are being supported by an investment of over $20m. The announcement also includes awards of approximately 400 scholarships and fellowships to UBC students and postdoctoral fellows with a value of more than $18m.

UBC Health Researchers Awarded Funding to mitigate impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on children, youth and families

On December 9, 2021, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, announced an investment of $13.7 million in 89 new COVID-19 research projects across the country.

Four projects led by UBC Researchers were awarded more than $0.5 million to focus on understanding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children, youth and families.

The Government of Canada is providing funding for the research through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The Michael Smith Health Research BC and the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation are providing funds to support several projects on the impact of the pandemic on children, youth and families.

This new investment builds on the nearly $300 million that CIHR has invested in COVID-19 research since March 2020. This research spans everything from diagnostics and potential treatments to public health responses and communication strategies.

Michael Smith Health Research BC funds UBC researchers to improve patient care and outcomes

Michael Smith Health Research BC announced funding for 15 projects through its Health Professional-Investigator Program.

The Health Professional-Investigator Program helps close the gap between health research and its implementation. HP-I awards are dedicated to support health professionals who are actively involved in patient care to conduct and apply research relevant to health and/or the health system to ultimately improve health outcomes in BC and beyond.

MSFHR Funds Knowledge Translation Activities for 19 Teams led by UBC Researchers

The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) funding through the 2021 Convening & Collaborating (C2) and Reach competitions will create pathways from research evidence to impact and help ensure that cutting-edge health research can directly improve the health of British Columbians and BC’s health system. 

These collaborative teams consisting of researchers, trainees, and research users are investigating a wide range of research areas that address health challenges facing many populations in BC.
