SPARC will be offering reviews of NFRF Special Call: Research for Postpandemic Recovery Notices of Intent (NOIs).

Researchers are invited to submit their 2500 character summary to SPARC for review between Monday, April 11 and Thursday April 21.  Please submit via email to danica.kell@ubc.ca by or before Thursday, April 21st at 10am.

UBC is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2021 Faculty Research Awards.

Researchers at UBC and Carleton University received IDRC funding for their joint project, “Placement, Preservation and Perseverance: Afghan At-Risk Scholars, Activists and Students,” to help scholars and others who are fleeing the crisis in Afghanistan establish a new intellectual community in Canada.

A total of 40 emerging and established Research Excellence Clusters led by researchers on the Vancouver campus will be supported in 2022/23. This total includes 27 awards made through the 2022/23 Grants for Catalyzing Research Clusters Competition (GCRC) and 13 clusters entering the second year of their current award.

​​​UBC researchers were awarded almost $2 million in funding for 16 projects from the Canada Foundation for Innovation's (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF).

Applications are invited from leading scholars across career stages from UBC and UBCO to the 2022-23 Wall Scholars Catalyst Program. Successful scholars will participate in regular sessions at the Institute focusing on the broad theme of Climate and Nature Emergency. Application Deadline: Friday, April 29, 2022

To that end, CIHR has introduced new requirements for the registration and public disclosure of the results of clinical trials.

UBC ranks second in Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities, 2021

Dr. Pieter Cullis, a professor in UBC’s department of biochemistry and molecular biology, has been awarded the inaugural VinFuture Grand Prize alongside peers Drs. Katalin Kariko and Drew Weissman. The award recognizes the trio’s work on mRNA technology that paved the way for effective COVID-19 vaccines.

UBC researchers are leading one NFRF Transformation Stream project awarded $24 million. 22 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs at UBC were announced and are being supported by an investment of over $20m. The announcement also includes awards of approximately 400 scholarships and fellowships to UBC students and postdoctoral fellows with a value of more than $18m.

SPARC, in collaboration with UBC faculty, has produced a new video -- NSERC CREATE Information Webinar and Strategic Discussion (CWL protected).

Applicants interested in submitting to the NSERC CREATE competition should consult this video. Included in this presentation is an outline of the competition, strategic advice, details on the mandatory internal selection process, and a discussion with a UBC faculty member who serves on the NSERC CREATE selection committee.

SSHRC’s Partnership Grant Stage 1 competition requires applicants to include a one page “Host organization involvement” module in the form of a “letter of engagement…written on official letterhead and signed by appropriate officials”. This letter “should explain any plans for involvement by the host institution in supporting the partnership”, including cash and/or in-kind support from departments and faculties within the host institution.
